The Father of our Faith - Part 5
Stories of Faith

Adrian
We’ve been in a series called The Father of Our Faith, looking at Abraham and what it means to live a life of faith. The truth is, we’re part of that same family line—faith runs in our family! But faith doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some, it’s stepping out into the unknown; for others, it’s just keeping your head above water and trusting God in the middle of a busy, exhausting season—and that’s still faith.

Hebrews 11 reminds us that “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Whether you’re believing for provision, peace, or purpose, faith is about choosing to trust God, even when the outcome isn’t visible yet. Like Abel, Enoch, Noah, and Abraham, we’re called to live faithfully where we are—doing what’s right, trusting God’s promises, and walking with Him daily. Keep going. God shows Himself faithful to the faithful.

Faith isn’t always about big miracles or instant answers—it’s often just about sticking with God in the everyday stuff, even when things don’t go your way. For me, it showed up at work. I wasn’t overly ambitious at first, but with a family to provide for, I needed direction. I came across The Prayer of Jabez and started praying,

Oh that you would bless me and expand my territory. Please be with me in all I do and keep me from trouble and pain.

1 Chronicles 4:10

Within a couple of months, doors I never expected to open up did, and over nearly 30 years, that led to amazing opportunities, travel, and even national awards. Faith can be like that—taking small steps, trusting God day by day, and being open to where He leads, rather than just waiting for some big, miraculous moment.

I’ve come to realise my story isn’t finished yet, and faith isn’t always about big, dramatic moments—it’s often the quiet, everyday choice to show up and trust God. The last couple of years have been a rollercoaster: my job was being made redundant, and I had to decide between the safe, steady path and stepping into something uncertain but meaningful. Leaning into what I feel is my “just cause,” I’ve held onto verses like Matthew 6:25-33, which remind me not to worry about life’s needs, and Matthew 8:5-10, which show that God’s authority covers even what I can’t control. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m learning to take the leap, trust Him, and see where this next chapter leads.

Ruth
Living a life of faith isn’t always about dramatic miracles—it’s about the ongoing, quiet trust that brings the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). For me, that’s noticing repeated nudges through messages, mentors, or chance encounters that confirm I’m on the right track. A real-life example? Two years ago, I wasn’t sure about work, fasted for guidance, and ended up in a role that seemed uncertain—but later revealed itself as exactly where I needed to be, allowing me to support a loved one and make a real impact. Ultimately, faith means choosing trust over fear, embracing the unknown, and holding onto Hebrews 11:1: “faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Life isn’t about perfection; it’s about leaning into God’s timing and trusting His plan.

This year, God spoke clearly to me: if I choose to live free of bitterness and negativity, my path will glow. Inspired by Ephesians 4:31–32, I’ve been learning to put away anger, slander, and malice, and instead show kindness, forgiveness, and tender-heartedness. A recent week reminded me how sneaky the devil can be, turning even gifts meant to bless into sources of negativity—but as soon as I spoke God’s truth over my situation, the darkness lifted. It was a powerful reminder that staying vigilant, leaning on God’s Word, and choosing a heart of forgiveness transforms not only me, but everyone around me.

This year has been a season of growth, faith, and new opportunities, both at home and in work. After being a stay-at-home mom for a while, I started exploring jobs, gradually stepping into casual roles, then church support, and eventually a hospital admin position that’s now permanent—though a bit scary, it feels like exactly where I’m meant to be. Balancing family, finances, and work has required trust and faith, especially as our routines shift. Verses like Psalms 116, reminding me to relax and trust God, and Colossians 3:23, encouraging wholehearted effort as if serving the Lord, have guided me. It’s a reminder that living faithfully means embracing change, trusting in God’s timing, and putting our heart and soul into everything we do.
