SUNDAY MESSAGE SUMMARY
Our Home
Ron Thomas
There are four good reasons to own a church building. First, self-determination and security of tenure—we’re not dependent on others. Second, it sends a powerful message to both our community and the enemy—we’re are here to stay. Third, to release ministry. Owning a building means we have an asset, not a liability.
And finally, it’s an inheritance for the generations to come (Proverbs 13:22).
These are strong and valid reasons to own a building for a church community but for us, buying a building was above all, an act of obedience.
It began with a word from God, back in 2012, to start a building purchase fund. This isn’t just strategy—it’s divine direction. God has given us a property. Now it’s time to respond.
That brings us to the question in Ezra 1:3—“Who is there among you…?” Like the sons of Issachar (1 Chron. 12:32), we need people who understand the times and know what to do. Ezra 1:5 shows us the kind of people who will build the house.
(1) Those Who Take Responsibility
The “family heads,” the “chief fathers”—these were the ones who accepted the call. Kingdoms are always built by people like this! As Paul told Timothy (2 Tim. 2:2), it’s faithful men who teach others. Not just faithful—but faithful and willing to take responsibility.
(2) Those With Vision
Judah, Benjamin, priests, Levites—they remembered what was lost. They’d seen the former glory and they wept when the foundation was laid (Ezra 3:10–12). Some had seen it before. Others could see what could be. Both are needed.
(3) Those With Willing Hearts
“Everyone whose heart God moved”—their spirits were awakened. That’s how the Kingdom advances. Not by pressure, but by stirred hearts. Everyone, all in. Like the Tabernacle and the Temple (Ex. 35; 1 Chron. 29).
So—who will build the house?
