SUNDAY MESSAGE SUMMARY
Being Disciples - Making Disciples (Part 2)
Hengki Widjaja
Happy Pentecost Sunday, everyone! Today looked a little different—Pastor Adrian really tried to be here, but couldn’t. We’re praying for his healing.
Today’s message brings us back to Acts 1:8: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem… and to the ends of the earth.” This power isn’t mystical fluff—it’s the Spirit of God equipping us to live boldly.
Some ask, “If I follow Jesus, do I still need the Holy Spirit?” Yes—because even Jesus said in John 16:7, “It is to your advantage that I go away… for if I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.”
The Holy Spirit isn’t weird; He’s our Parakletos—our advocate and defender. Acts 2:2–4 tells us, “Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came… and all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.”
This isn’t about being strange—it’s about being empowered. True discipleship isn’t passive. It’s a Spirit-filled walk of courage, truth, and love. And that’s what we need most today.
Liz Thornton
Lately, I’ve been deep in Luke, and I can’t shake how radically Jesus lived. He stopped for the overlooked, welcomed the kids others ignored, and followed the Father—not expectations. It’s challenged me: What kind of life is Jesus really calling us to?
This Pentecost, I’ve been sitting with Matthew 28:18–20: “Go and make disciples of all nations… and surely I am with you always.” But Jesus doesn’t expect us to do that alone. In Acts 1:4, he says, “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised.” And then, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” (Acts 1:8).
The disciples waited, the Spirit came, and everything changed. The same Spirit still leads us today—nudging us to speak, stop, or step out.
I’m realising how easy it is to live a comfortable “good Christian” life, but God is calling us to more. To live alert, open, and led. The harvest is ready (Luke 10:2), and we’re the workers. Not just to quote it, but to be it.
Let’s be people who don’t just talk Spirit-filled lives on Sundays, but actually live them every day.
